Oh, the status quo

Do you know what the status quo is?

It seems to me that there's a lot of energy and effort put into preserving the status quo. I see it in the environmental movement, in politics, in conservation, in everyday life.

The problem is, there really is no such thing. The status quo is basically a myth. It's a bit like an average of a system in constant flux over a period of time. Actually, it's more like a lie.

The way things are is not set. There is no such thing as a system that stays the same.

But it's comforting to think that you can get to know how something works and expect it to work like that all the time.

But it probably won't.

Well the status quo is whatever is the current affair or what is currently acceptable. Over time it will change. The status quo won't stay the same as we all know it.
