Glenn:

Considering that the dominant strain of thought in science over the years has been that animals do not possess the capacity for the "nobler" emotions and operate solely on instinct, this book is important. There are many otherwise intelligent people who think this way, for whatever reason - and this book provides useful language for working against that view.

It doesn't seem particularly useful to call someone ignorant who disagrees, especially since the chances of communicating with them effectively about the issue drop to about zero. Probably not the best strategy.

No one person can be completely aware of all issues, and it is possible that someone who doesn't agree that animals have feelings may be a devoted humanitarian. This book provides evidence, and I really think it's our duty as advocates for animals to be aware of all the tools available to us to get that message across.
